Standard Pregnancy consultation

At Preston Physiotherapy we have appointments for pregnancy related concerns (ie. back pain, neck pain, abdominal pain etc.). A standard check of pelvic floor activation for clients without continence issues using an ultrasound is also available at Preston Physiotherapy. Please book the appointment called “Pregnancy Physiotherapy” on our booking page.

However if you are after a full pelvic health assessment (for incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, pregnancy etc), which may or may not include an internal exam and investigations, please book through Preston Pelvic Health - same location, same amazing physios. Thanks!

Why is physiotherapy important before, during and after pregnancy?

Physiotherapy for pregnancy is designed to strengthen your pelvic floor and other core muscles to ensure you have the best journey possible. There is large volumes of evidence that shows Physiotherapy exercises increases the ease of your labour and speeds up your recovery time.

What is involved in pregnancy physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy can be of benefit at any stage in your pregnancy journey. Initially a thorough assessment will be performed to target the ways in which we can help you. Manual therapy, exercises and advice is the key to every pregnancy.

Our pregnancy Physiotherapists are trained in assessing your pelvic floor using an abdominal ultrasound. This is an excellent way to screen for any issues with more accuracy.

How often do i need to come?

This varies between people. Some require only 1-2 sessions, and others benefit from more. We also offer Clinical Pilates for people wanting to have some supervised exercise throughout their journey in a safe way.
